What is cost per contact?

Cost per contact is your team cost divided by the number of handled contacts across all channels. It is the key metric for operational efficiency.

The formula: Cost per contact = (Salaries + Tools + Other costs) / Total contacts

Each channel has a different cost: a call is usually 3 to 4 times more expensive than a chat, which is about twice as expensive as an email ticket. Understanding that split helps you drive deflection toward cheaper channels without hurting satisfaction.
